West Orange Luxury Townhouse Living

This week’s Hot House Feature is a pristine townhouse located in the Eagle Ridge community of West Orange, NJ.

Ah townhouse living! 

Way back (like 10 years ago)…we were looking to move out of the city and I did not have a clue where to go. I wasn’t ready to move of New York but we needed more room and we certainly could not afford to upgrade in Manhattan. Unless of course we won the lottery. But since we didn’t, we began to look at townhouses in NJ.  One sunny afternoon in August, we went out to Roseland, NJ to visit Greg’s father who lived there at the time. On a whim, we drove around and looked at several townhouse communities and a few homes. Townhouse living seemed much more appealing than purchasing a home. The thought of moving in and hanging up your clothes without having to renovate, replace old dishwashers or mow the lawn was extremely enticing. The communities were also filled with young families who were in the same boat as us. Many of the condo developments had pools and tennis courts. It turns out on the day we were casually looking, we bought. I wasn’t prepared at all but we figured what the hell. What’s the worst that could happen? We would move back to the city. We never did.

Looking back at those five years we spent living in a townhouse, it was one of our best marriage decisions. I met new friends (whom I am still close with), I had a place for all of my wedding gifts that had been in boxes for several years, my kids didn’t have to sleep in a closet anymore and we could actually drive places. The luxury of getting in a car and driving to Whole Foods, Mommy & Me, and the gym, without fighting for a cab was somewhat of a relief. Do I miss the city? Of course but I am not sure Greg and I would have made it with two kids and a dog in a one bedroom apartment.

This townhouse happens to be located in Eagle Ridge. Eagle Ridge is one of the nicest West Orange condo developments. With 3 pools (one that is indoors & heated), a new clubhouse, 3 tennis courts, NYC skyline views and 24-hour manned front gate, it’s a great choice!
